Masks, demons, angels, saints, zombies, two-faced Januses, praying peasants, beast-men, flying horses, giant kites, dismembered puppets, human towers, musical phalluses, woven wheat, dancers, decoy houses, father trees, fronde d’alìa, festive loaves, sprites, and cucibocca.
An exhibition divided into two distinct yet constantly intertwined sections: “Annodare Sorgenti” and “Supermanifesto.”
“Annodare Sorgenti” (Knotting Sources) brings together documents and images from different sources, which serve as inspiration for the creative process behind many visual communication projects, both commissioned and self-produced.
“Supermanifesto” documents Mauro Bubbico’s extensive body of graphic work spanning the last 20 years (approximately).
Mauro Bubbico is a graphic designer who lives and works in Montescaglioso. After graduating in scenography, he worked as a freelancer and illustrator in Florence. Since 2005, he has taught graphic design at various universities and AFAM institutes. He is a member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale) and an honorary member of AIAP. His primary areas of interest are design for education and environmental sustainability. Over the years, his interests and research into places and their inhabitants have led him to develop a striking and contemporary graphic language capable of telling their stories and highlighting their value, thereby fostering their social, economic, and cultural development. In his view, graphic design is first and foremost the ability to construct grand narratives. Mauro Bubbico can be considered the true heir to Italy’s popular visual culture, which took shape within the tradition of pre- and post-war agricultural Italy and continues to thrive today. His work is never merely decorative; rather, he creates rich images whose depth embodies the essence of that material culture that manages to survive the post-digital nature of our contemporary contexts.
